S AG-AFTRA is continuing its advocacy in support of HR 3945, the Copyright Alternative in Small-Claims Enforcement Act of 2017. Known as the CASE Act, the bill would create a copyright small claims court for creators and small business owners who can't afford federal court as a means of defending their copyrighted works. An op-ed by SAG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris in support of the bill was recently published in The Hill. "To put it simply, the CASE Act will enable creators to enforce a small business-scale claim without the burden of hiring an attorney or filing in federal court," Carteris wrote. On Sept. 27, the U.S. House Judiciary Committee held a hearing on the CASE Act, during which Copyright Alliance CEO Keith Kupferschmid and Professional Photographers of America CEO David Trust were among those who testified in support of the bill. Visit copyrightalliance.org and urge your Congressional representative to support the CASE Act.
