in the early 1900s, it has gilded Mercury-head dimes, huge marble columns, and the most incredible vault with these safety deposit boxes that jut out, creating a unique visual of chaos and texture," says Adams. The team showed it to Danny Cannon right away. "We try to trot out one mind-blowing new location each season. He loves locations, and being one of the showrunners, he can retrofit a scene into a location he likes," says Adams. "He loved it, and felt that even though it was expensive, it would be worth it to set some scenes there." They shot a scene with Penguin's unscrupulous accountant in the vault and returned for other scenes many times since. "Once you got an agree- ment signed and paid, they were super easy and let us do whatever we needed to," said Adams, who hopes to use it again this season, "before it gets turned into a giant pharmacy or something!" After living in the shadows for more than 100 episodes and add- ing their own dimension to the legendary mythology, it will soon be time for Gotham's cast and crew to emerge into the sunlight. In the midst of shooting, it's often difficult to think beyond the next episode or two, much less the end of a season or series you've spent five years of your life on, but Adams has been looking back on his experience, considering the show's place in the legacy … and think- ing about the future. "Gotham is a fantastically produced show that sets a high-water mark for network TV. On a visual level, the show was a success- ful collaboration that clicked from the start. To see an episode and realize that a location our team found, allowing us to put our own creative stamp on this legendary piece of pop culture, will always be a feather in my cap. I'm proud and lucky to have been a part of it," says Adams. Adams is eager to put his Gotham experience to work in the service of his own projects, but doesn't rule out leading his location team on a new adventure. "I'll continue to do my own creative work and hope to parlay that into something I can make a living from, but in the meantime, I'd love to work on a big-budget movie or something that shoots outside of the NY area. I've always thought supervising international jobs was pretty much the top of the heap for a location manager, so I'm game if anyone is hiring!" Thinking about their place in the lore of Gotham City and how their work may inspire future storytellers, Adams says, "If our work makes it onto someone's future mood board, it would be a compli- ment to the entire creative team."
