McClelland Cellars 2014 Merlot, Napa Valley ($35) Smooth, velvety, and lush with notes of earth and spice; tangy acidity and good balance; a long and fresh release from the Scotto family. 92 Flora Springs 2015 Merlot, Napa Valley ($30) Deep ruby color ; tangy with fine structure and balance; aged 19 months in a mix of new and seasoned oak barrels. If you're down on Merlot, this one could change your mind. 94 Pellet Estate 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon, St. Helena ($95) Rich crimson hue; lush and sumptuous texture with spice and bright plum. A lovely example of an exceptionally pure Cabernet, it's balanced and deep with some minerality, as well as subtle toasty oak notes. Rich, long, and stunning. 92 Moss Roxx Vineyards 2015 Ancient Vine Reserve Zinfandel, Lodi ($26) A penetratingly spicy nose precedes a creamy mouthfeel; ripe with notes of chocolate and plum. Fresh, succulent, and balanced with lovely depth and intensity.
